Dark Sun is a Chicago-based grunge revivalist trio bringing raw emotion and thunderous riffs back to the forefront of the modern rock scene. Formed in 2017, the band consists of Tristan Sheedlo (lead vocals, guitar), Luke Sheedlo (drums), and Dan McDonald (bass guitar). Together, they craft a sound that channels the brooding intensity and melodic heaviness of their influences—Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, and The Smashing Pumpkins —while forging a powerful identity of their own. Brothers Tristan and Luke Sheedlo grew up surrounded by the sounds of ’90s alternative rock, drawn to its unfiltered emotion and heavy atmospheric textures. The trio began playing together in the Chicago underground scene, developing a signature sound defined by dark, sludgy guitar tones, haunting vocal harmonies, and emotionally charged lyricism that explores themes of self-doubt, loss, and personal reckoning. Dark Sun made waves with the release of their self titled demo compilation album “Dark Sun” in 2021, moody, riff-driven tracks that captured the band’s ability to blend melody and grit. Their 2022 Album, “Spine” further solidified their place in the grunge resurgence, earning local radio play and critical praise for its dynamic songwriting and relentless energy. Known for their electrifying live performances, Dark Sun has become a fixture in Chicago’s alternative venues where their intense stage presence and thunderous soundscapes have drawn comparisons to the legends they admire.
